Down the Moselle: from Zeltingen-Rachtig to Cochem
Downstream along the Moselle, you will find numerous old Moselle villages with half-timbered buildings, the Art Nouveau town of Traben-Trarbach, and Beilstein, the Sleeping Beauty of the Moselle.
Newly created hiking trails as well as quaint, but ancient tracks encourage active holidays. Climb the Calmont, the steepest vineyard in Europe, and enjoy the wonderful views over a glass of Moselle wine.

Up the Moselle: from Zeltingen-Rachtig to Trier
If you head upstream, you'll want to stop in Bernkastel-Kues. Enjoy the incomparable atmosphere of a picturesque old town full of history and culture, with a historic marketplace and many winding lanes. Visit Landshut Castle and the Cusanus-Stift with its wine shop and viniculture centre.
A few villages further, you can immerse yourself in Roman history in the wine town of Neumagen-Dhron, before continuing on to Trier, the oldest city in Germany. Along your route, there are small ostrich farms and wine cellars that invite you to linger in many a village.

To the Eifel
An excursion to the Eifel is also worthwhile: As varied as the landscape around the deep blue volcanic lakes are the wide range of hiking and cycling tours you can take.
Here, it's well worth taking a break to visit one or more of the ancient monasteries, viaducts, and castles. Tip: One of the cycling paths leads back to the Moselle: just roll on downhill.
